Week 5

When it comes to making a sport into a video game, I think the one that does it the best to me is MLB the Show. In MLB the show they have many game modes but the one that I want to talk about is called Road to the Show. In Road to the Show, you are typically a High Schooler or College player looking to make his way into the league. Now obviously many people who play these games do not know what actually goes into the process of being scouted and doing workouts for all these teams, and the game does a good job of trying to give the player an abbreviated version of this experience, so compared to the Article, "The Slow Grind" he talks about how in the game 720 you can't just skate around without the bees chasing you so it does not really feel like skating. When comparing the game itself to baseball, there are times when it is true to the game and there are times when it is not. When looking at the "The Slow Grind" he talks about how you can not pull off certain moves that you could pull off in real life. In MLB the show one of the big things I feel is missing when you compare it to real life is the ability to adapt to situations easily. In the game, you have to sit there and input buttons which makes it really hard to do things in the spur of the moment. Like if someone changes direction or if someone tries to take the next base as you are already in the middle of throwing. In the MLB the show one of the challenges they faced was how to give off the atmospheres that you get in real life when physically at a game. In the Article, they talk about the many ways that the skating games of today do just that. One of the things that MLB the Show did was add a type of rivalry system into the game in which the more better plays you make against that team the more the bar increases. When the bar gets high enough you start to trigger events throughout the game to try and give you that feeling of being there staring down one of the best pitchers in the league
