Week 12
The Board Game I chose to learn about was Tiny Towns
The first reason that this would follow Johnson's notions of transparency is that you can see everything in the game except for each player's specific monument. You can see what resources people are grabbing, what buildings they are attempting to build, and where they are trying to build them. Each Building has a card that tells you what resources you need to build it and what shape those resources need to be placed down in order to build that building. Each resource is assigned a different color that is distinctly different than the others
The round starts with the "Master Builder" calling out a resource. Everyone will then collect one piece of that resource and place it on their board. After everyone has placed down their pieces if any player can build a builder they may or, they can elect to not do so this turn. The Master Builder will rotate clockwise to each person so that everyone will get a chance to pick a resource. This continues until every player has all the squares on their board filled, either with a resource or a building. If you fill your board before the others you are done an my start calculating your points.
As the game continues on you can rack up points in various ways that are stated on the building cards. One such way of getting points is having cottages "fed" In order to feed the cottages you must have a barn built. When a farm is built it can feed up to 4 cottages. When a cottage is fed it will earn you 4 points at the end of the game. Another way to earn big points is to build Taverns. The more taverns you have built the more their point are multiplied on a scale of 4,9,16,25. If you build more than 5 it will have no effect on the points that you can earn from them.
